Happy Valentines Day!

I love this new template by Cindy Schneider! It is just so CUTE!! I made a 12x12 page for our family album and then turned it into a calendar topper for next year's calendar thanks to the I'll Pencil You In challenge at Scrap Matters! I might actually have everything scrapped BEFORE the end of November for our 2012 calendar this time!! Woo HOO!!

This was the perfect kit to make a school layout! I'm trying really hard to keep up and scrap school events IN the year they happened so I can have the printed book sometime the following summer and be ready to go for the next school year. It might be the first time I've kept up and been on target with my scrapping. We won't discuss baby albums or wedding books (yikes!). My excuse is that I didn't have SBC3 then!

So, look how fun my page turned out using this fantastic kit! Applelicious by Just So Scrappy can be used for school, apple picking, pie baking, apple cider and with all that red and green don't you think of Christmas too??! I even managed to make a wedding layout (see below!) Well, it's official. My favorite season has ended and the weather is starting to turn to rainy old gray skies (sigh!). To keep my spirits up I pulling out all the "rainy day" projects that you do indoors....sewing, crocheting and COOKING! I was looking through some old magazines that I picked up last year and "re-found" this recipe that I didn't get time then.

So, after we got back from the pumpkin patch yesterday we got busy with these cookies!!

(the weather was sooooo nice yesterday, so glad we went then! It's raining now!)

This recipe is for Night Owl Cookies and below I have a freebie recipe card if you'd like to have it. =) Click on the card to download it.

These are cute (for owls) and a great project to do with kids! =) I tried the recipe pretty much as written but didn't need near the amount of flour and cocoa as they suggested. It calls for the refrigerated pre-made sugar cookie dough, but your favorite recipe can substitue and my next batch with be Gluten-Free so my hubby can enjoy them too! =) It is torture for him if I'm cooking/baking something delicious and he can't eat it!

So, here we go. After mixing the flour and cocoa in this is what the log looks like....notice that flat edge on the bottom? That is the edge used to join the cookies! =) My white dough isn't perfectly centered because I overlapped the chocolate wrapper to make it a little thicker on one side for the owl face. Now the recipe says you can get 20 owl cookies, I got 14 so maybe my log was thicker than it was supposed to be or I cut them a little thicker (or both!). I actually like the size they are though.

I used thread to make the slices and they are pretty cute once assembled (again, for owls). =)

I even got creative and put oatmeal around the eyes to see how that would turn out!

Be sure to space them far enough apart. I'm so glad I did a test run! I don't normally use pre-made dough so I wasn't sure how much they would GROW when baked! YIKES!

I mean, seriously! This.....

became THAT! LOL!

You still can get 12 on a larger pan though! =)

Then it's just a matter of decorating with some chocolate and vanilla or cream cheese frosting!

Gotta add those M&M eyes too!

Then you end up with a pretty cute cookie that was easy to make!

Happy 3rd Birthday to ScrapMatters!!! Isn't this blog train GREAT??!! I can't believe all the goodies being given away made with Cupcakes & Candles by our own SM Design Team!! What a fun kit!

My best birthday memory might have to be TODAY!!! My parents came up to our house on the train and we've had a week of celebrations since my DD's 5th birthday was last weekend and we celebrated my BIL getting his US Citizenship and then yesterday we went to Seattle to celebrate mine a little early. We took the Argosy Harbour Cruise there and then we ate at the Spaghetti Factory. I cherish the times we spend together as a family since we haven't been able to get together very often, especially in the last few years. Taking time to do these things and getting the pics to scrap of it is becoming more important to me as I get older. =)

So in honor of our multiple birthday celebrations I created a QP for you!

I'm going through withdrawals and had lots of "end of month" stuff to complete for ScrapMatters, but since it is down.....I CAN'T!! Here is what was explained to me about it:

It is a complication from the server move between the image handler and the hosting company. This requires specialized support and most of them do not work weekends. Andrea is doing what she can to help resolve this issue quickly!!!

So, I guess we all wait until it is back up and running! I'm so excited for August too since it is my guest CT month for the ScrapMatters store! YAY! I hope they get this fixed QUICK! LOL!

***UPDATE*** YAY YAY YAY...it came back up on Monday, August 2nd!!!

SO TRUE and I just had to share this poem I saw recently!! LOL, although I'm pretty much "digital" these days except for a few school projects and a card here and there!

Twas the night before Christmas,
I’m glued to the tree.
I’m wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or inkpads or lace?
Or some stamps, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that’s when I heard him……“Hi Santa, ” I said.
He replied, “You know….good girls should be in their beds”.

But I was just so excited to see what you brought.”
“Well, let’s take a look in this room where you work”.

Absentee Blogger

Wow! It's been since October 12th since something has been published. That is the day I received news that my Dad had a stroke and everything got put on hold. I stopped my CT work, pulled Kaitlyn out of preschool for two weeks and went down to help my parents. We had just been down to visit about a week prior and things seemed okay. To make a long story short, he is fine and is recovering. It was a mild one, but we were all shocked to learn that it wasn't his first one. There had been multiple ones in the past (they couldn't determine when they might have happened) but he has never had any of the typical stroke conditions. They are expecting a full recovery and he is working hard to make sure that happens.

After returning home I had to get back into the swing of things quickly as Kaity had many activities planned at her preschool and we would be returning in a short time for Thanksgiving and now we are again for Christmas. I have been assisting with various things for Kaity's preschool. I built them a blog and try to put up pictures after taking them. If you'd like to see it go to: CELEBRATION KIDZ Preschool. I have volunteered to make their first yearbook as this is their inaugaral year! =) It's fun to be part of something brand new! They have a 3 yr old and 4 yr old class; I'm doing the book for the 4's since I'm there with Kaity many afternoons and am trying to post those layouts on their blog so parents can see what the book will contain. Needless to say I'm a little behind on posting pics for them and SEVERELY behind on this one!

So, I'm "catching up" my posts. If you scroll back through you may see some "new" older posts now! LOL =) Maybe one of my New Year's Resolutions should be to be a better blogger! We'll see.....

Anyway, keep checking back. It will take me a bit to get the older posts finished to be published, but I got a few done! =)

Halloween is coming!

Every year we take Kaitlyn to a local pumpkin patch and take lots of pictures. This year she is going to be Sleeping Beauty! Daddy had to work so she and I just went together. Fortunately another Mom and I were able to take shots of each other with our kids! =) Here are a few layouts with her in costume at the patch and one of her and my Dad reading together! This was just about a week and a half before his stroke!

It is amazing to see Kaity so "grown up" and going to preschool. I knew this day would come, but it sure seemed to come fast! After scrapping "Wonderfall" I decided to go back and scrap some of her as a baby with her blankets and then pics of her with her new Tinkerbell fleece! I wonder if she'll ever give up those pink and purple baby afghans???!!!

Plum Dumpling Designs new kit & a freebie

Haven't we ALL been there with a 2 year old? That day when nothing makes them happy and you are doing your best, but according to them it just isn't good enough? Well, now you can just take a deep breath and SCRAP IT! Yep...capture that moment on film and use it to YOUR advantage later...(heh, heh...a little blackmale won't hurt 'em, right?!). I have to say, I have been very fortunate and have not had many of these episodes, but I found a few pics of Kaity when she was NOT all smiles and I really like how the page turned out. This kit has helped me capture all sides of Kaity, and even though the tears are hard I've always loved the snuggle time afterwards when they are too tired to fight anymore. TO MY BLOG!!! Wow..I just realized that I created this one year ago today! Seriously?? I'm having issues with how fast time seems to be going lately!

Kaity is 4 years old!

I can't believe that Kaity is 4 years old already! How does that happen? I mean, I taught at ERHS for 5 years and it felt like eternity. I've blinked and she's a 4 year old starting preschool this fall. Wow!

Her actual birthday was Friday, July 31st, so we took her to Chuck E. Cheese, which she LOVED! Then we found a park with a beautiful flower garden. She got to play on the toys there and enjoyed that a lot. She talked about getting an ice cream sundae all day for her birthday so we went to Red Robin for her free birthday dessert! The staff was amazing! They actually gave her a real card, they all signed the inside and even spelled her name right! When we got home there was a package on the doorstep for her. Uncle Michael had sent her a birthday gift and she was SO EXCITED when she saw what was in the box. She played with her Tinkerbell teapot house the rest of the night!

We held her formal party on Saturday, August 1st. We had an outdoor party with water toys and the weather couldn't have been better. She had so much fun with her friends and cousins that came. Now all I hear from her is that she can't wait for another birthday and when will she be 5!

(ack..oh no! I'm not ready yet! lol)

I have been scrapping the last couple of days and had to share my recent layouts that I haven't posted in a while. I'm trying to compile all of Kaity's layouts chronologically...what a big chore! I'm trying to get caught up as she'll be starting preschool this fall...YIKES! Where does the time go? So, my big project is to really organize her layouts starting with DAY 1 of her life and get all the journaling on my layouts to order a baby book for her. At this point I do NOT see this getting completely DONE by the time preschool starts...but we'll see! =) Of course, I'm also trying to stay caught up with pics I've recently taken....and redo some layouts that frankly just needed HELP in a major way. Some I just started over with! =) That's part of the beauty of digital....even if I have to toss out a layout I haven't wasted any materials! =) Gotta love it! =)

Wow...it's been a month!

Well, time certainly has flown! I can't believe it has been a month since I've posted here...good grief! I have a few pieces of "NEW" news! =)

1) We completed our homestudy meetings on June 11th and the 25th. We are now waiting for the final copy to be written. Fortunately, they agreed to just do an update on us which meant less meetings and money! Works for me!! =)

2) We have a required course we must take on drug affected babies and the place that conducts these clearly needs to add sessions! We can't get in until September unless there is a cancelation! This class was waived for us last time because of the rushed nature of it.

3) I got a PM (private message) from a scrapper at Go Digital Scrapbooking that they are using my gallery as inspiration for their "Scraplift Challenge" for the month of July! I'm totally flattered and completely SHOCKED!!! lol I'll be excited to see what people come up with! (Click to see the thread, my gallery link is there)

4) I entered a layout for publication in The Daily Scrapper Issue 11. I just got confirmation that it was accepted! The publication is already out and mine is called "I've Got a Ticket to Ride". (click to see the page in the issue) I was surprised to learn I get a free kit out of the deal! SWEEEEET!!

5) I just got an email this morning that another 6 8x8 books will be added to my account, which means they will be FREE! All I pay is shipping! =)

I'm also a Guest CT for Sarah Bennett this month. I chose her new "Let Freedom Ring" kit and I love how this layout turned out! You can see her kit in the store HERE and if you like my page you can get it as a QP along with a really cute one that Sarah did herself on her BLOG!

Well, I'm off to the Farmer's market, finish my "flag cake" for the 4th of July BBQ later this afternoon and then fireworks tonight! =) Have a Happy 4th of July!

I needed pics for a CT page I needed to make so out we went for a photo shoot. Here are a few that we took:

Cute, but not exactly what I was looking for. I tried to make it work and it just wasn't! The pink dress just wasn't working with the kit colors.....so, what do you do? You change outfits and do the photo shoot again!!! LOL This time we took over 100 shots and I got some that I think will end up on my wall! =) YAY!

She's very into posing for the camera, at least for a few shots, but it looks more like a cheerleader pose at this point! Gotta work on that! Kassi?? Where are you?! We need more photo shoot lessons for Kaity!!! LOL!!!!

I was a BUSY scrapper for iNSD!!! I did those Speed Scraps and there are still more to come, but I started this Red Carpet Scrap a Thon WAY too late. I didn't see it until the last minute, so I didn't finish all 10, but here are the ones I did get done! =) I still plan on finishing the others even though the competition is now over.

You Only Live Twice Challenge:

This page I whipped up only out of her elements pack since that is all I got to begin with. For the challenge she let us download half of her My Little Artist kit and once we completed a page and uploaded it in time she would give us the rest of the links. I just got all the links, it is a cute kit!

Red Carpet Scrap a Thon:

1) "Night at the Museum" challenge: Dust off an old kit you've been meaning to use and go for it! This one is "Wish You Were Here" by HollyAnn.

2) "Grand Theft Layout" this was a scraplift from Linz's gallery. I pretty much did her layout but with a different kit! I have more to add to it, but this is what I turned in since it was all her layout had.

3) "National Treasure" We had to use 2 papers and 4 elements out of this freebie mini kit. This WAS a challenge for me since I don't have any fancy dress up/red heel kind of pics!

So, this is what I came up with:

4) "The DaVinci Code" We had to follow a 'code' or set of instructions on what to include in the layout! I love how it turned out. We'll be celebrating 17 years this summer, maybe I'll actually get my wedding album done one of these days! This was made with one of my NEW favorite kits: So This Is Love by Sahlin Studios!! Can you believe that this is her FIRST official kit as a new designer...I can't wait to see where she goes from here!

Well, here are a few projects I've been busy with for the last couple of months! I love scrapping digitally, and I especially love it when it is all published into a book! I have been in "book mode" lately working on several gift projects and an Airplane Series collection for my husband cataloging his photos from various air shows he has attended. He uses these pics for paint schemes and model kit building. It is nice to have them all organized in one place rather than scattered through several photo albums!

I am able to compile a book and order multiple copies which make wonderful gifts. These books will be for Kaitlyn's birth parents and their families! I got a hold of some GREAT deals and haven't paid full price for any of these. I was able to swap out a few pages so Kaitlyn's birth parents will each have pictures of their time with Kaitlyn during our get together meetings. Even though the covers are identical, the spine and a few pages inside are unique for each family!=) I can't wait to wrap them up and give them for Mother's & Father's Day!

WE'RE CELEBRATING!!! It was 4 years ago today that Kaitlyn's birthmom came and asked me if we would like to adopt her baby. She was 5 months along and was a previous high school student of mine. =) Every year on this day Kaitlyn and I do something special which usually involves lunch at the Olive Garden. Today we are double celebrating because we officially turned in all of our paperwork, family profile and sent our fingerprint cards in to be checked. It is just fitting that it all happened on April 20th--a special day for us! The weather is incredible, my truck said it was 81!!! Sweet!!! Kaity's thermometer read 101.2....NOT so sweet! She was such a trooper during our errands, but was slowly fading away and when I felt her forehead at lunch I was like...great! Where did she pick this up? She was totally fine yesterday!

Yesterday was really the first bright sunny day so Kaity and I ran down the hill to see if there were any daffodils left in the fields! There was one field left uncut! YAY! Last year was the first time we didn't get any pics because the weather was cold, cloudy and rainy during the whole season so I did NOT want to miss out again! We had a pretty quiet Easter. It was raining and very cold!! We got ready and went to church, then came home to a surprise from the Easter Bunny and colored our eggs. Kaity spent the afternoon playing with her toys after all that and kept saying, "It was so nice of the Easter Bunny to bring me presents! I made a wish that the Easter Bunny will bring me MORE presents!" LOL =)

Sorry I've been MIA

Wow...I haven't blogged anything here since January! I've been SUPER busy and just have not had time to do this too! So, in a nutshell since the last time I posted I've gotten a new job and it has been keeping me really busy. I'm teaching Jr & Sr High classes online! =) It's perfect! I can stay at home with Kaity, make my own schedule and have the opportunity to move into full time or pull back if I need to!

I've also re-started the Holy Scrappers group at my church only now we will be called the Memory Makers. We meet once a month. I also am designing/maintaining the website for the Jazz Disciples group (don't try to find it now...it's still not up and running perfectly yet). That has been a big learning experience! I also set up and maintain the Duffy's Daughter's blog that my Aunt really founded. It is a place to go and get a daily Bible verse and may grow to be a place of connection in the future. And, of course, I continue to do CT work for multiple designers. I also am doing the scrapbook pages for Adoption Ministry, the agency we went through when we adopted Kaitlyn. AND...we are moving forward (FINALLY) in our 2nd adoption attempt. So, needless to say, I have not been bored! There has been plenty of things going on! =)

I've met the most amazing people online through the blogging world and digital scrapping! One of the gals I met from South Africa just gave me a friendship award!! I didn't know there was such a thing in the blogging community...but how fun! Thank you Christelle for your friendship and for the award! It has been so much fun getting to know you and trying my hand at Afrikaans...lol, well, in a cheating way I guess!!! =) Here are the awards ....

She has such a eye for design and is extremely talented. She went on to work for a couple scrapbook stores and teach their classes! I see now on her blog that she received some software for Christmas and is dabbling in digital! (HAHA...just wait til she discovers all the challenges, ADSR....FREEBIES!) She and I both still do paper (she more than I), but her creative talent now has a whole new look! Who knows....she may decide that digital is easier to whip out and finish layouts when her new little one arrives later this year!!! =) I've certainly found that digital fits my budget much better! ADSR 4 (Amazing Digital Scrapbook Race season 4) is underway! My best friend and I are the "Princess Sisters" Team #18. There are 230 Teams!!!! Basically this is just a completion race and will only be eliminated if we don't get our challenges in on time. We plan to go the full distance and if you do you are entered into a drawing for the Grand Prize package...which I'm not sure what it all is.

I totally LOVE this personal blinkie that Kandy Kane from NDIS made for us! My best friend and I are teaming up to be the Princess Sisters and starting in January we'll tackle this digi-scrapping challenge! I can't wait! =)

Christmas Piano Music CD for sale!

Well, I just got confirmation of registration in the ADSR 4!!! YAY!! That stands for The Amazing Digi Scrapping Race--season 4 if you didn't know! It doesn't start until January thankfully, but I'm very excited to give it a try. Participants from all over the world partner up in this race fashioned after the TV show and complete scrapbook challenges. It is a completion race so as long as you finish and upload in time you get to move on to the next round. I'm told there are lots of freebies and new sites to visit along the way and then if you finish you are entered into a drawing for the grand prize at the end! Woo-Hoo! =) My partner and I are both newbies to this...but we're both excited to give it a shot!

I feel so fortunate to be working on several Creative Teams for so many talented designers. I just started with Steel City Scraps at Digital Candy and then found out she and another designer, Christie Lemmon, would be combining their CTs!!! How awesome is that?? Now we can access both designer's kits and boy do I have a lot of pages in mind! Here is one I did last night just due to sheer excitement! Things to be Thankful for . . .

With Thanksgiving right around the corner I decided to do a layout on our first Thanksgiving with Kaitlyn as a member of our family. That was such a big year of firsts! Really, it was her first big Holiday celebration with our extended family members so it was a big occassion! =)

This kit is so cute...and not only because of the little mice!! I have been so ready for Christmas and Winter kits to come...but then I saw this and thought.....THIS is stinkin' cute! It has a little bit of everything, buttons, flowers, shrooms, bling! It really could be used for more than just fall photos too!!! I just love the mouse holding the makeshift umbrella with their tail trying not to get wet. I've got just the pictures...when I INSISTED we go visit a flower farm in the POURING RAIN! We drove for 3 hours to get there and I prayed the whole way we would get a sunbreak...no such luck. But we did get a few minutes to take photos when the rain stopped momentarily! The wind was biting cold though! Our daughter was just about 8 months old then and we tooled around in the mud with the stroller...needless to say hubby was NOT happy! Neither was I...I didn't get the beautiful photos that I was hoping for...and I still haven't! Kaitlyn is 3 now so maybe this next spring we'll have better luck! Take a walk down "Memory Lane" with me and be glad you didn't have to experience THIS!!! LOL

It has been so much fun to be on a couple Creative Teams and watch the layouts just fly! I don't think I ever got so many layouts done in such a short amount of time while paper scrapping! At least none that I got to keep...the gift albums with lots of pages made great gifts though! =)

So, I've been working on these over the last couple of days. They have been long anticipated! This Himmel bed was purchased in Germany by my parents when I was born. They shipped it back to the states and saved it all these years. They gave it to me years ago to store for "when that time came" and unfortunately it took longer than anyone expected, but it DID come!

When Jim and I opened the box the boards were wrapped in newspaper....dated 1974/1975 after my sister was done with it. It was sticking to the boards in places and the newsprint was coming off onto the white paint. The brass fitting were also a mess! I was like...GREAT...this isn't exactly what I had in mind! But, my handy hubby got to work with repainted and scrubbing the brass. It was just like new! I also added my touch by changing all the bedding to pink! The sides were a pink/creme gingham check design by Disney's Classic Winnie the Pooh line available at the time. the canopy was a sheer pink soft toule that increasingly had sparkles as it got closer to the floor. Because it was so light and "flow-y" I sewed on a faux pearl beading all along the bottom to give it weight and made a casing at the top for a pink satin ribbon to attach it to the cradle. We bought a new mattress for it and it was all ready to be used again! It was hard for me to have Kaitlyn move to the crib after about 3 months...it was such a beautiful Princess bed!

So, I took lots of pics of the makeover and her in it. I dug out my pics from Germany of me using the bed and made these pages using the Josie kit by Calalily Designs. The muted tones actually worked as I wanted the many pictures to stand out and the frilly, floral frames reminded me so much of how ornate German decor usually is! PERFECT! Hope you enjoy them!
